Silicosis and Workers’ Compensation

Posted on: Thursday, 29 August 2019.

Silicosis is a form of pneumoconiosis, a respiratory illness caused by breathing crystalline silica dust-containing particles. It most often affects those who work in the engineered stone benchtop industry, including those who cut, grind and install engineered stone.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER TO EMPLOYERS?
Under OHS requirements, employers of those exposed for crystalline silica are required to pay for health surveillance - which includes the costs of medical services and tests.

If you have an enquiry about silicosis or about workers compensation cover or claims, please contact us. WorkCoverWA has produced a fact sheet for workers about silicosis.
